Blizzard Entertainment has released a new animated short video entitled “Alive”, giving gamers a closer look at the developer’s upcoming team shooter title Overwatch. The game will see players take on each other in teams of six heroes on objective-based maps that represent locations from all over the world. Check out the trailer below:
Coming from Blizzard, the makers of World of Warcraft, Overwatch will be a team-based arena shooter featuring over 20 playable characters that definitely looks to be shaping up to be a huge classic.
Players take control of giant mechanical heroes gifted with special powers and team up with others as they battle everywhere from the streets of London, to the biting cold of Russia’s heartland or the temples of blazing hot Egypt.
Each character has their own set of unique powers and abilities that can give them the edge required to win battles.
Players on PS4 who would like a taste of what it’s like to play the game can sign up for the OverWatch open beta that is scheduled to kick-off in early May.
The “Alive” animated short above features Widowmaker, a ruthless and lethal sniper who prefers to employ deception and stealth to get that edge. But one character’s strengths can be the weak point that other characters may be able to exploit and take advantage of.
The characters that will be most successful are the ones that not only play to their strengths in attack, but also know how to defend well; for example, Widowmaker has Noxious Venom Mines in her arsenal that help her discover any enemies nearby as well as poison any that get too close. If all else fails than players can switch characters in-game to ensure victory.
As the developer behind World of Warcraft, Activision Blizzard has earned its credentials as a PC game maker, so the company was at pains to assure gamers that it understood how important it is to provide a great experience on console.
The Overwatch open beta is open from 5 to 9 May and will give players access to the complete game including all the maps and the title’s playable 21 characters. Activision will also be giving early access privileges to all players who pre-order the game.
