Spotify on PlayStation Music

Sony announced its new PlayStation Music service in conjuction with Spotify back in January and today the company has announced that the service is now live. PlayStation 4 console owners will now be able to enjoy their favourite music on their console while playing games.

PlayStation Music, which sees Spotify as an exclusive partner, aims to bring digital music across all Sony’s platforms including the PlayStation 4 console.Eric Limpel, VP at Sony Network Entertainment, had this to say about the partnership: “We know how important music is to our community of gamers, and this partnership combines the best in music with the best in gaming.”

PlayStation Music will first launch on PS4 and PS3 to begin with, as well as Xperia Smartphones and tablets.Users of the PlayStation Network service will now be able to link their profile to their Spotify account or subscribe to the premium service through a convenient sign-up process that uses your existing ID and PSN wallet.

With more than 30 million songs and 1.5 billion playlists available on the streaming service, PlayStation 4 gamers will also be able to use their Spotify accounts while playing games, meaning gamers will now have complete control over the soundtrack to their gaming sessions.

Users of the new PlayStation Music service will also have access to all their Spotify playlists as well as the ability to listen to playlists curated by Spotify or by other users.

Spotify’s Premium service will be available via PlayStation Music for £9.99/month, while there are a couple of offers in place to introduce the service. The first deal concerns any Music Unlimited subscribers with accounts that are still active as of 29th March 2015, these accounts will get the option of  a free two-month trial to Spotify Premium. The second offer is geared for new and existing Spotify users who have not yet had a trial of Spotify Premium. These users will be eligible to receive 1 month free on Spotify’s Premium service.
