Sony’s PlayStation Experience 2016 was held over the weekend and the showcase featured many big announcements including new games, release dates, and trailers. The event was the third to be held in PEX’s history and left many Playstation fans licking their lips for what’s to come. Check out all the major announcements, games, and trailers in the roundup below:
Wait What? The Last of Us Part II ?!!!
Yes Indeed, Naughty Dog did shake the foundations of the earth by announcing at PSX 2016 that Joel and Ellie’s journey will continue in The Last of Us Part II.
The two are back are set to make a comeback on PS4 in another action-packed adventure. It seems development of the sequel is still only in its early stages so it may be a while yet before we can actually play the new title. Still, fans of the The Last of Us will welcome the announcement. Check out the trailer below for a glimpse of what to expect next year:
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Fresh from dropping the The Last of Us Part II bombshell and with gamers yet to recover from the shock, Naughty Dog was at it again. This time the announcement concerned a certain MR Nathan Drake, who will also be making a return to the PS4 console in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, a new standalone adventure.
This is the series’ first ever story DLC and Naughty Dog wanted to create something new while still keeping to the spirit of previous Uncharted titles.The developer then gave us a glimpse of the fresh new title in a trailer over 8 minutes long! The video shows Chloe in a war ravaged city and about to meet up with debut character Nadine Ross.
The two women will have to work together and use all their skills and expertise in their expedition into India’s Western Ghats mountain range. Check it out below:
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy PS4 Pro Announce Trailer
Nex Machina
Nex Machina is a brand new shooter that was announced at PSX 2016 by Housemarque. The team behind Resogun and Alienation will partner with arcade legend Eugene Jarvis on the new project. The result of that collaboration is pure arcade action set in a world where machines have evolved to become more superior than humans and now refuse to serve them.
The rise of the machines occurs due to mankind’s addiction to technology and just as the future looks bleak, a hero appears. The mystery of who you character is and where they are from will be revealed in due course but first you have to defeat the army of robotic enemies out to annihilate you.
Housemarque say that creating Nex Machina is their effort at bringing back a “true arcade experience” seeing as arcade halls are now found few and far between. Check out more in the PlayStation Experience Announce trailer below:
PaRappa the Rapper
If you’re into Hip-Hop beats then you’ll be glad to know that this classic is being remastered for PS4. PaRappa the Rapper is a rhythm video game that features a unique visual design and as you can tell from the title, – rap-based gameplay.
If you’d like to try out one of gaming’s most loved classics then you can try out the PaRappa the Rapper Remastered demo which is now available to download here. First released in Japan 1996, the game will be joined by two other classic titles in Patapon and Loco Roco.
All three have been remastered to meet the demands of the PlayStation 4 console on 4K screen displays and are scheduled to arrive in 2017.
NieR: Automata
Square Enix has revealed details of its cult action RPG sequel NieR: Automata. The release date of the highly anticipated action RPG follow-up to the 2010 cult-classic NIER on PlayStation 4 is 17 March 2017 . The developer also revealed that a demo for the game will be available on the PlayStation Store soon. We’ll let you know about that as soon as it happens.
In the meantime, what we know is that Square Enix is collaborating with PlatinumGames Inc on the project and will be an engrossing story packed with action and adventure.
Players are set to face hordes of aggressive machine lifeforms in order to help androids 2B, 9S and A2 retake the planet.
Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
Level 5 debuted a new trailer for Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, the next title after the popular PS3 role playing game Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. The developer announced that this time Ni No Kuni will also be coming to PS4. The release date has been slated for 2017, details of which are confirmed in the trailer, – alongside a first look at some new gameplay.
Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom will feature a fresh new battle system and amazing graphics that take inspiration from Anime art. Check out the trailer below for more:
Open-World Crime Sim Yakuza Kiwami Coming to PS4
Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of the original PS2 classic released in 2005 and will be coming to PS4 in 2017. The game’s graphics have been completely redone to meet the 1080p/60fps standard of the PS4 console. For those who never got to play the first game, Yakuza Kiwami will be a great way to revisit the roots of SEGA’s much-loved open-world crime sim.
The new Yakuza remake features new voices, new combat, and new graphics as it prepares to launch on PS4. The upcoming title will also feature new diversions such as Pocket Circuit car racing, new hostesses, and more.
Pyre PS4
SuperGiant games came to Playstation Experience 2016 looking to show off their new trailer for Pyre, the latest RPG from the same team that brought us Transistor and Bastion. you can see it above.
Dino Frontier
Dino Frontier is one of what seems to be a lack of PS VR games that was announced over the weekend. The god sim which will be available for PlayStation VR in 2017, lets players build and manage a frontier settlement as the wild west and Jurassic age collide. You will be in charge of the tabletop-scale VR world and you’ll have to manage your resources carefully to grow your town.
The free-roaming dinosaurs will prove to be both a dangerous nuisance but also tempting assets to be captured and domesticated. Dino Frontier is Uber Entertainment’s second PS VR game, following on from 2016’s Wayward Sky.
WipEout Omega Collection
Elsewhere, a WipEout Omega Collection was announced for PS4 and the new PS4 Pro console. Omega collection has been re-mastered in stunning 4K and will include all the content from WipEout HD, Fury and 2048.
Knack 2
Oh, and KNack 2 is coming to PS4 too. Fans of the much loved PlayStation 4 launch title will be happy to know that a new game in the franchise is in the works. You can see the reveal trailer above for a glimpse of what to expect.
Other highlights from this Years PlayStation Experience included the following announcements:
- Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony is coming west to PS4 and PS Vita as a physical and digital release in 2017. The new title will be the third main game in the murder mystery adventure. More details to come, but in the mean time you can stay up to date by checking out the game’s official site.
- Capcoms’ Resident Evil 7 demo Midnight update is now live and available to download with PS VR/ PS4 Pro 4K and HDR support.
