The side-scrolling action and adventure platformer from Double Fine Productions and Adult Swim Games, Headlander, is coming to PlayStation 4 on 26th July 2016. The game is being described as the Ultimate Head Trip by its developers and it’s not hard to see why.
First of all, Headlander begins with players finding themselves on an abandoned spaceship as the last organic life left in the universe. Players are just a head in a helmet with a rocket booster attached.Not only that, but a Robot leader called Methuselah has decimated the human population. Now he wants to finish the job off by eliminating you.
This is how the game, inspired by 1970’s science fiction, starts and what an intriguing one. Fortunately for those waiting for Double Fine Productions’ platformer, Headlander comes to PS4 this month.
Consequently, players have to first select 3 separate heads for their character. The next step is embarking on the quest to find out what has happened. Finding more about yourself and solving the mysteries that have led to you being the last human alive. Understandably these are the issues that form a large part of the Headlander storyline.

The game’s world is is a huge network of different areas. Thankfully players will have the ability to dock into other things to get about quicker. A connection is possible with anything with a universal docking ring made for the purpose.
Connectable things include everything from computer terminals, humanoid Citizens and Shepherd bodies, turrets, robot vacuum cleaners, and even robot dogs.
Shepherd bodies job is to keep the peace and patrol their designated area. Each one has colour coded security clearances that gives them access to certain areas. This is why they are a crucial character in Headlander because of their ability to facilitate your movement within the game’s world.
Helping you navigate Headlander’s world will be Earl whose voice you can hear in the helmet. Earl will assist players get around as well as find transfiber nodes. The special nodes are essential for giving your head new abilities. The nodes work in combination with upgrade trees that also have extra abilities to give your character a better chance in combat.
As players get the feel of the game they’ll be able to utilise the head better. Especially relevant things such as defeating enemies, deflecting enemy fire and much more, including hoovering your enemies heads.
