Sony at gamescom 2014

Sony recently used Gamescom 2014 as the platform to reveal a number of games and updates including  PS4 system update 2.0. The update is due in the next few months and will finally bring Share Play and YouTube capabilities to the PS4 console, but Microsoft also taking the opportunity to announce  new Xbox One bundles and the exclusivity of the next instalment in the Tomb Raider franchise: Rise of the Tomb Raider, will the coming update be enough to keep current and prospective PS4 owners happy?

The biggest news in the update is that Share Play will now be available; This exciting feature allows gamers to create an online co-op experience even with other gamers who don’t own a copy of the game being played. It’s an exciting feature, one that will surely be embraced by long suffering gamers who have to fork out a fortune for AAA titles. Share Play will require PlayStation Plus and Sony described it as a ”virtual sofa” because gamers will be able to invite friends to join in the game, offer advice, or even take over the game.

Another big feature coming with PS4 system update 2.0 will be the much requested broadcast and video share features. PS4 gamers will soon be able to upload gameplay footage in addition to having a dedicated YouTube app. This feature will make it easier to search for fellow PSN gamers as well as your friends’ gameplay footage through enhanced recommendations and real time activity.

Sony announced that sales of the PlayStation 4 console have topped 10 million, making it the fastest selling console ever, and also announced a strong line up of upcoming PS4 games and a host of other updates, including the 2.0 system update. Hopefully, that will be enough to convince PS4 fans that the platform can hold its own and offer great value in the face of fierce competition.
