This week sees the first Japanese import released by SNK on PlayStation 4 with the launch of Fu’Un Super Combo. The new title is a compilation featuring PS2 classics Savage Reign and its sequel Kizuna Encounter. The two titles have only ever been previously released in Japan but are now also available on PS4 in the west.
Savage Reign and Kizuna Encounter Now Available on PS4
Following the announcement of Fu’Un Super Combo, SNK also promised that this would be the first of a few more Japanese Imports to come to PlayStation 4.
The Japanese hardware and software company has been working closely with Sony in this regard.
And its first efforts to highlight older titles culminates in the arrival of Savage Reign Kizuna Encounter on western shores.
SNK has stated its commitment to offer fans the opportunity to play classic and older games on today’s hardware so there is promise for further collections in future.
Thankfully, if your Japanese is a bit rusty the two games support the ability to change the in-game text language from the options menu. In all, Savage Reign will support English and Spanish while Kizuna Encounter will supports English, Spanish, and also Portuguese.
Although Kizuna Encounter is the sequel to Savage Reign, the two games provide different gameplay experiences. The difference lies with Savage Reign using a combination of weapon-based combat and the ability to jump between a lower and upper field.
In contrast, Kizuna Encounter does away with the ability to jump between the back and foregrounds and replaces it with a brand new tag battle system. The feature is similar to that used in popular Wrestling shows featuring tag team matches.
More Japanese Imports On the Way!
As mentioned above, Fu’Un Super Combo is just the first of SNK’s Japanese Imports and the company has promised more. In that vein the developer also teased another upcoming release; ADK Damashii. The title is another classic PS2 collection featuring five NEOGEO games.
Games included in the ADK Damashii collection will include Ninja Combat, Ninja Commando, Twinkle Star Sprites, Aggressors of Dark Kombat, and Ninja Master’s: Haō Ninpō Chō.
The announcement of the last game in that list will be cause for joy for many NEOGEO fans. Ninja Master’s: Haō Ninpō Chō is an extremely rare game on the system and its arrival on PS4 next year will be most welcome.
