Fans of the arcade-style maze based video game Bomberman will be excited to know that two ex Insomniac developers are bringing a similar title to PS4. Blast Zone! Tournament is a multiplayer game that is set for release on PlayStation 4 and PC later this year. Developed by Victory Lap Games, Blast Zone! Tournament marries the type of gameplay that Bomberman is famous for with the functionality of games such as Overwatch and Rocket League.
Blast Zone! Tournament set to Explode onto PS4
Independent developer Victory Lap Games has created Blast Zone! Tournament with the aim of crafting the ultimate multiplayer experience. The upcoming title is a love letter to Bomberman, a game whose release Victory Lap’s founders had got fed up waiting for to be released on consoles or PC. The indie developer was founded in 2017 by ex-Insomniac developers Chris Pfeiffer and Mike McManus.
Pfeiffer and McManus have previous experience through working on titles such as Ratchet & Clank, Resistance: Fall of Man, Red Faction, and many others.
As a result, Victory Lap Games has created what can be considered the ultimate love letter to Bomberman gamers will ever see. Blast Zone! Tournament features a massive list of notable highlights.
In addition to 32-person online multiplayer frenzies, there will also be 10 multiplayer modes and 280 multiplayer levels. And that’s not all, as Blast Zone also includes 240 single-player challenges and dozens of unique gameplay options.
In it’s simplest form, Blast Zone! Tournament allows up to 8 players to compete locally. Additionally, players can then switch up to the aforementioned 32-person multiplayer frenzies online. Consequently, there are endless combinations of couch-based local teams and online players.
Once teamed up, players can choose from up to 10 unique multiplayer modes in the bomb-based action game. Those modes include the more traditional Team Deathmatch, as well as an attack vs defense scenario called King mode. All 10 modes will be available across 280 customisable levels.
In King mode players will have to defend a VIB, or Very Important Bomber. In addition, there is also a Bomb Blast tournament whereby bombs are used to paint floor tiles and change the dynamics of the game.
Blast Zone! Tournament Single-Player Campaign
For players looking to go it alone there will also be a fully-loaded single player campaign. The single-player campaign consists of 240 different challenges including deathly traps, mind-boggling puzzles, and enemy robots.
Blast Zone! Tournament features a massive rewards system that features billions of character customisation options. As a result, the upcoming PS4 game will include various outfits that will allow players to achieve a totally unique look for their characters.
Set to a pulsating party soundtrack, Blast Zone! Tournament’s gameplay will take place across seven themed locales. In addition to a tropical jungle and a pirate ship on the high seas, there will even be quirky venues such as a smoke-filled 1990’s dance club.
