Fast paced cooperative top-down shooter Livelock has been announced as coming to PlayStation 4 this year. The sci-fi adventure title allows up to three players to team up and try to stop a never ending war between rogue machines.
If this is the first time you’re hearing about Livelock,the game is an intriguing, cooperative top-down shooter from Perfect World Entertainment and Tuque Games that is set in a world where humans have been obliterated. Substituting them are machines, which are forever engaged in war against each other.
Livelock’s storyline is set in the 22nd century, a world where a devastating gamma ray burst is responsible for the total human wipe-out. In Livelock, the world has rulers called Rogue Clusters, which represent the various groups of mechanical armies. Rogue Clusters wield control over multiple territories, while at the same time fighting against each other.
And since there has to be a good side to the game, preventing the complete takeover of the world is a job for SATCOM, a satellite A.I. that tries to awake backups of human consciousness (also known as Capital Intellects), who are now a key part of large machines, built by the humans themselves, just before their eradication.
Livelock has been created as a game that should bring the more experienced players to the good old arcade days, game that is also a challenge for the most experienced gamers. But no matter how many tools and weapons you have available, thinking tactically and being a cooperative player is all it takes to overcome the toughest challenges.
The development team have also revealed one of their playable characters, called Hex (Livelock features three playable characters). Hex was alive before the tragedy that had wiped out the humanity, and he was an e-sports professional. Other than that, Hex also participated in an experiment where his consciousness was uploaded to a database, and after the cataclysm, it was uploaded to one of SATCOM’s machines.
