Bloodborne, the PlayStation 4 exclusive game being developed by the Sony Japan Studio in collaboration with From Software, has been dubbed the new ‘face’ of the new gen PlayStation 4 console so we have compiled everything that we know about the game so far.
Featuring dark and twisted themes, several details about the new title from Sony have been released, including some of the characters, weapons, and environments PS4 gamers will encounter once they get their hands on the game.
Themes:
The game developers have said that there are three main themes that will be explored in Bloodborne; Fear and exploring the unknown, intense life-and-death battles, as well as ensuring players get to experience new and unique online experiences.
Environments:
Bloodborne begins in the city of Yharnam, an ancient city deeply steeped in medicinal experimentation. The games’ story will take players beyond the walls of the city though, where players will get the chance to stock up on the transforming weapons they’ll need to conquer the even greater dangers to come.
With an attention to detail, the games’ developers aim to bring the Bloodborne experience to life on the PlayStation 4 console through scenic but sombre architecture and environments. With such a spine chilling backdrop, and danger lurking around every corner, players will have to negotiate their progress using the light of the moon, lanterns and fires burning in the street and a torch to light the way through dark and dangerous spaces.
The environments we know of so far include a forbidden forest, an old, abandoned section of Yharnam, as well as the Hemwick graveyard which is located on the outskirts of the city. Visible through the mist and fog over the lake will be an old, abandoned and frozen over statuesque castle called Cainhurst castle. The noble inhabitants of the castle have long since dissappeared, though finding out what happened to them or what you’ll find in the castle is a mystery that players will not find easy to discover.
Beneath the city of Yharnam lies an extensive network of ancient ruins on multiple levels. Seemingly a lot older than the city above, and made by creatures that can not be human, these ruins will also transform and look different to each player that is brave enough to go in and explore them.
Characters:
Players will encounter many scary and twisted inhabitants, including deformed grave-keeper hags with terryfying screams and ability to attack using their extended reach. In the deepest and darkest depths of the graveyard resides a powerful eyeball-collecting old witch whom the game developers advise to take on with caution and perhaps with some help from fellow players.
Also in the game is a well dressed priest called Gascoigne, this guy will wields a giant axe and moonlights as a Hunter in Yharnam, as well as a mysterious hunter with twin blades and a cape of bird feathers. Recently revealed is also Gyula, a veteran hunter with exceptional capabilities and skill, whom players may encounter when they venture into the deserted and eerie old part of the city.
Weapons:
With a combat style that requires pro-active and offensive actions, no shields to hide behind, and enemies that are quicker and extremely aggressive, weapons will play an important role in completing your mission.
The main tools of choice will be the transforming blade weapons designed to eliminate your enemies in the most gory of ways possible. Set in a modern 19th Century style Gothic setting, weapons will include a transforming saw cleaver for quick successive attacks at close range and a blunderbuss shotgun for dealing with numerous enemies at distance. Other weapons include a massive transforming axe, shotguns, and nimble twin blades that include a steel sword that transforms into the hilt of a massive block hammer.
The latest weapon to be revealed is a transforming cane which players can use in its standard form as a melee weapon for short range attacks but which can be utilised as a deadly heavy or long range weapon as well in the form of a devastating bladed whip.
Strategy and skill will play a big part in your survival, and those who are aggressive and offensive -minded will be rewarded with success more than those who might try to wait and use defensive tactics. The game also has a revolutionary brand new Regain System, which rewards players for taking more risks and being more decisive and strategic through allowing those players to regain any power lost in attacks when they counter attack quickly with a bladed weapon.
Bloodborne is slated for release on Friday the 6th of February 2015 exclusively on the PlayStation 4 platform. Keep checking back for more details and let us know what you think about the game in the comments section below.
